Selecting References for Your Research Paper: Chicago Style Author-Date Formatting
Three key factors will help you craft your set of research paper references, once you’ve identified an author whose work you want to cite: (1) community support (number of citations), (2) publication source, and (3) recency. This is illustrated with a specific example, showing the process of finding your author (using Google.com/scholar), selecting and evaluating a candidate paper, and formatting the reference using the Author-Date method in Chicago style.
