There are a lot of questions around the sacroiliac joint (aka SI joint) that can keep people from getting the care that they need. I frequently see patients in my chiropractic practice who have struggled for years with pain in various areas like their low back, sacrum and tailbone region, and hips - with the common underlying cause being SI joint dysfunction.

SI joint dysfunction can present as SI joint instability or SI joint fixation. Many times chiropractors tend to see every problem as a joint fixation and therefore perform chiropractic adjustments, like a side-posture manual chiropractic treatment, to help the problem. But when the pain is being caused by instability in the SI joint then creating stability around that sacroiliac joint is key.

In this video we talk about activities that can increase SI joint pain. We also go into things that many times can bring SI joint pain relief, including SI belts, SI joint pain exercises, and avoiding activities that create stress around the sacroiliac joint itself.

We also go over a simple test that we use in my chiropractic office called the SI belt test that allows us to better determine if the patients pain is coming more from their lumbar spine (low back) or their SI joints.
