Economic Level of Water Losses - Recent International Experiences
The use of mathematical models to determine the economic level of water losses goes back more than a few decades. With proper model logic and high quality input data, such models can provide good targets for water loss program planning and regulation. Such economic models have been used in studies and plans in many countries around the world. Its use has been the cornerstone of leakage program planning and regulation in England and Wales for many years, but, OFWAT (the regulator there) is moving away from the this approach. However, other countries are beginning to create / adopt / adapt such tools for utilities and regulators to use to steer water loss programs. This Webinar will present the status of such programs in three countries - Brazil, Sweden and the USA, as well as a summary of the history in the UK. The presentations will cover accomplishments, challenges and ongoing issues with regard to technical, institutional, policy, and regulatory matters as well as experiences with stakeholder involvement.
