MOST CHALLENGING EAR WAX & DEAD SKIN REMOVAL !! - #429

Ear wax removal is necessary when ear wax build up becomes impacted. Symptoms causes by earwax blockage include: earache (otalgia), conductive hearing loss, blocked ear, vertigo, tinnitus, itchiness and irritation, occlusion etc.

The client attended today with right deep occluding and impacted earwax and left occluding earwax. In addition, his right auditory meatus was inflamed.

I successfully removed the bilateral occluding earwax endoscopically, using E-suction, crocodile forceps, and an ear hook, with the assistance of some olive oil ear wax drops in the right ear. The right ear wax very complex, as the ear wax was lodged deep in his auditory canal, which was also swollen and inflamed. This meant that the client would experience discomfort every time I approached the earwax. In the end, I had to use an ear hook to extract the ear wax.

Post-procedure revealed his tympanic membranes to be both dull and somewhat bulged in the Pars Tensa and retracted in the Pars Flaccida, which was more so evident in the left ear. There was also visible Otitis Externa of both auditory canals.

Although tympanometry indicated middle-ear compliance in both ears, there was excessive middle-pressure present (+176 daPa in the right ear; +100 daPa in the left ear). The client himself still reported aural fullness after the removal of the ear wax.

I have advised the client to trial some over-the-counter nasal decongestants but have also referred him to his doctor with regards to both his Otitis Externa and Eustachian Tube Dysfunction.
