Folkways@Folklife Los Texmaniacs featuring La Marisoul
Few musicians capture the spirit of the Folklife Festival and Smithsonian Folkways Recordings like Los Texmaniacs. Founded by renowned bajo sexto player Max Baca, the band also includes Josh Baca (accordion), Noel Hernandez (electric bass), and Chris Rivera (drums). Their border-crossing sound embraces elements of polka, waltz, rock, and conjunto, resulting in a GRAMMY Award and plaudits from the likes of Flaco Jiménez, Los Super Seven, the Rolling Stones, and many more.
Sharing the stage is acclaimed Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Marisol “La Marisoul” Hernandez. Lead singer for another GRAMMY-winning super group, La Santa Cecilia, La Marisoul’s captivating voice is matched by her exuberant creative energy and collaborative generosity. Together, they’ll share songs from their forthcoming Folkways album, Corazones and Canciones (Hearts and Songs).
Opening is DC's very own Son Cosita Seria.
This inaugural season of Folkways@Folklife is dedicated to our dear colleague, audio engineer, and sound production supervisor Pete Reiniger (1949–2022).
ACCESSIBILITY: Live real-time captioning and American Sign Language Interpretation are available for this program.
