"Gazprom Arena ( St. Petersburg Stadium for all international matches ) is a soccer stadium in St. Petersburg. It is located on Krestovsky Island, on the site of the demolished Kirov Stadium. The author of the Gazprom Arena project is Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa
Construction of the stadium began in 2007. The facility was officially commissioned on December 29, 2016
During construction, the project was drastically changed 5 times, including a 30% increase in the stadium's capacity and a 66% increase in the area of the structure. Also, three general contractors and four general designers changed during the construction. The construction supervisors from the customer's side also changed - during this time two governors and six specialized vice-governors changed in St. Petersburg
The estimate was set 5 times, and the total cost of the stadium increased from 6.7 billion rubles to 43.8 billion rubles(according to other data, about 51.75 billion rubles were actually spent on the stadium. Currently[when?] the stadium is considered one of the best stadiums in Russia
The stadium hosted matches of the 2017 Confederations Cup and the 2018 FIFA World Cup[20]. It also hosted matches of the European Championship in 2021.
Until December 8, 2018, the stadium was named St. Petersburg. On February 15, 2018, the Government of St. Petersburg and Zenit Arena LLC (a subsidiary of JSCFootball Club Zenit)signed an agreement
