Experience Bologna
This video is an introduction to Bologna, the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region in Northern Italy. It is produced to show visitors the best attractions, dining, accommodation, shopping and other facilities of the city. It is full of information and easy to watch. After watching you will know where to go, what to see, the best places to enjoy, the churches, theaters and lively squares, what and where to eat, and where to stay.
Bologna is the seventh most populous city in Italy, with about 400,000 inhabitants while its metropolitan area is home to more than 1,000,000 people. It is known as the Fat City for its rich cuisine, and the Red City for its red tiled rooftops and, more recently, its leftist politics. It is home to the oldest university in the world which was established in 1088.
Originally Etruscan, the city has been an important urban center for centuries, first under the Etruscans then the Celts, later under the Romans , then again in the Middle Ages, as a free municipality. Famous for its towers, churches and lengthy porticoes, Bologna has a well-preserved historical centre which is where we suggest visitors should spend most of their time. The city has a large student population that gives it a cosmopolitan character so there are restaurants, bars, museums, art galleries and entertainment venues scattered around that have great appeal to most visitors.
Most of Bologna’s basilicas and piazzas are in the city centre, navigable by foot via a network of walking streets. To us, these are some of the top attractions in the city and it is fun to wander around without a set plan. From Piazza Maggiore, climb up Asinelli Tower for panoramas over the city. Window shop through the Quadrilatero, or follow the aroma of freshly baked goods to historical markets where you can also sample one of Bologna’s prized cured meats.
We try to show the highlights of the city and what a visitor can see within the central area.
