First Days in Yosemite National Park
Lee got us successful to our destination in the foothills of the Sierras. Our first full day here we took a drive into the park, visiting Tunnel View, Wawona Tunnel, Glacier Point and we did a 4 mile hike to Sentinel Dome. On the second day, Lee dropped me off at a bus stop that has regularly scheduled roundtrips into Yosemite Valley and he picked me up later in the day. I hope to take this bus several times for day hikes when my friend Larry comes to take care of me and before the backpacking begins with Blake in mid-July.
The higher elevations still have a massive amount of snow and the highway that most of our permits start from is still closed, due to avalanche danger. I was able to change the first permit and will seek the Park Rangers suggestions about the second permit today. Finger crossed this highway open before July 24th.
The hike I do in this video is called the Mist Trail, it is appropriately named as I was COMPLETELY drenched when I got to the shelf above the falls. It was hot enough that after having the prepared meal there, I was mostly dry, and completely dry by the time I finished the hike. There were lots of people on this popular trail, but if you paced yourself right, you could walk without seeing too many people, and those you did meet were good people.
