German Night Fighters Feared The "Window" More Than Any Gun #ww2history #history #worldwar2 #ww2

German night fighters had powerful radar.
It allowed them to track Allied bombers through darkness, clouds, and long distances during #WW2. For years, this radar gave them a deadly advantage in the night skies over Europe.
Then the Allies introduced something incredibly simple.
They called it “Window.”
Thousands of thin strips of aluminum foil were dropped from bombers during missions in #WorldWar2. When these strips spread through the air, they reflected radar signals and created massive false targets on German radar screens.
Suddenly, the sky looked full of aircraft that didn’t exist.
Real bombers disappeared inside the electronic confusion. Radar operators struggled to separate real targets from clouds of metallic reflections.
German night fighters could still fly…
they could still shoot…
But their greatest advantage — radar — had been blinded.
Sometimes the most powerful weapon in war isn’t a bigger gun.
It’s a smarter trick.
