On March 9, 2022, the Australian government declared a national emergency in response to floods in the Australian states of New South Wales and Queensland. Tens of thousands of residents were ordered to evacuate. The flooding has killed 20 people and inundated thousands of homes and facilities since it began in late February. The devastation followed record rainfall in the country.
