When Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited Indonesia for the first time in June 2022, the country's president Joko Widodo took the Australian leader for a special ride on bicycles made of bamboo. Built by a team of 15 in Indonesia’s Central Java, it took up to a week to finish one of the green two-wheelers at a cost of about US$1,000. The designer behind the bamboo bicycle said his craft is a way of using an abundant resource in his hometown that also creates jobs for the local people.
