Bakery in New York’s Chinatown celebrates 70,000 free meals during year of pandemic support

A bakery in New York City’s Chinatown has been giving out free meals daily since April 2020. That’s when Patrick Mock, who manages the 46 Mott Bakery, started organising food deliveries to help the needy in a community devastated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Mock and his group of volunteers have distributed more than 70,000 meals in the year since. As they marked the first anniversary of the programme on April 23 by handing out 500 free meals, Mock reflected on how the pandemic has changed him personally as well as how it has reshaped his neighbourhood.
