District Metering Areas Explained | Leakage Reduction Programme | Uisce Éireann
Water flows from treatment plants and reservoirs through a complex network of pipes before it reaches our homes and businesses.
To manage our water supply we measure the flow of water into district metering areas in our cities, towns and villages using district water metres.
Measuring allows us to see spikes in water use, which can often mean an underground leak or burst.
Some of these district water meters are over 20 years old and may not be working.
We’re replacing or fixing district water meters in district metering areas for better information on where the leaks might be so that we can find and fix them.
