“Faith Journeys with God in the Land” Part 34
This episode was recorded at Masada. Uniquely, you will join Dr. John on his run (yes, run!) on the Snake Path up to the very top of this palace-fortress. The elevation gain is over 1,000 feet from the trailhead at the bottom to the top. Due to the length of time it took to reach the top, this episode is a bit longer than other sessions, about 25 minutes long.
Masada was a “palace-fortress” built by King Herod early in his reign (37-4 BC). He had a few other palace-fortresses like this (e.g. Machaerus, Herodium) as a a way to protect himself from those who rebelled against him. Specifically, Masada was later used following the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple (in 70 AD), but almost 1,000 Jews. Masada was used as a place of refuge against the Romans who surrounded them for nearly three years.
What difficult and uphill “trail” (or should we say “trial”) are you facing now? It sometimes feels as if life in general is one ”uphill climb,” doesn’t it? Are your life's circumstance causing to get "out of breath” in dealing with the uphill challenges you are facing?
No matter how steep the climb may be or fell, are you keeping your eye on the goal of cresting the top and leaving the difficult climb behind you? God gives us just the right amount of strength and determination to conquer the difficult “climbs" of life. Life’s journey with God doesn’t shield us from the uphill challenges we face, but rather God provides His help to get us ”up and over” the many trials we face. Be encouraged, God is there to strengthen you step by step. He is there to also restore your weariness. He is there to be your “fortress” (in Hebrew, “metzada,” see Psalm 18:1-2).
Note: Sorry for the many “back-and-forth” swaying movements of the camera on the run. But we hope you enjoy the Snake Path and the spectacular view from the top.
