Restoration of a Rusted Vintage Pipe Vise

Restoration of a rusted vintage pipe vise. Watch me restore and repair this vise that has been rusty and unused for a long time!

ABOUT THE VISE
This is an Armstrong Bridgeport 2” vise that was made in the USA. This has been in the bottom of my fathers tool box for quite some time and It made for an AWESOME RESTORATION!

THE RESTORATION PROCESS
This vise was in rusted and dirty condition to start with. I started out by completely dismantling the rusted vise. There were approx. 17-18 pieces. I used paint remover and washed most of the small parts and with the larger cast components I used a sandblaster. After the dismantling, sandblasting, and washing it was time to start restoring.

I powder coated the main cast pieces after using a cleaning solution to remove any left over oil or finger prints. As mentioned in the video, I pre-baked the larger parts before coating to insure a better adhesion to the rough casting and then powder coated multiple times. The results were incredible!

For the T-handle, I removed the rust grease by using wire wheels and sandblasting. We then heated the T-handle up with a torch and placed it in oil to blue the metal. Thanks to My Mechanics Insights Channel for teaching me how to hot blue. The hot bluing gave the vise restoration a nice look!

The teeth of the vise were sanded buffed and shined to give it that mirror and shiny look.

The screws restored by putting them into a drill and sanded with 320, 400, 1000, and 1500 grit sand paper. It gave them a nice clean finish.

After the main parts of the pipe vise were powder coated and cured, I then painted some of the raised casted letters to highlight and make easily visible. It really brought the project together.

I replaced the old bolts and nuts with new stainless steel ones because the old bolts and nuts were stressed.

Now all parts were ready to go! I put the vise back together and it looks amazing. This was beautiful/awesome restoration.

Please like and comment on the video and let me know what you think. That would be awesome and it would help me out!
