10 Tips on Olympus Cameras: Beginner Mistakes and How to Correct

These are my 10 top tips for new or beginning Olympus photographers. These are common things most people run into when learning their new gear and hopefully this video can offer you some shortcuts and advice in getting to know your Olympus camera.

1. The Focus Clutch - If you have a manual focus clutch mechanism on your Olympus lens it can trip you up if it is inadvertently changed. Learn how to check this feature before shooting or turn it off (Gear Menu - A3 on the EM1MK2)

2. Not remembering you have AUTO ISO SET when shooting in M. If you have Manual exposure selected on the mode dial and auto ISO it will keep you from being able to see your exposure preview.

3. Not remembering limitations of Silent Shutter. 1. Be aware of possible banding in artificial light, especially fluorescent bulbs and use the mechanical shutter instead of 2. By default, your flash will not work with silent shutter but you can enable it (Menu - Cam 2 - Antishock/Silent - Silent mode settings - Flash)

4. Not remembering your LIVE VIEW BOOST setting. Use this setting to decouple the exposure preview from the EVF when shooting with flash in a dark environment but don't forget to turn it off.
5. Not spending the time to configure the camera to the way your mind works

6. Only shooting with the camera up to your eye

7. Being Lazy with placing the AF point

8. Underexposing by not checking the histogram

9. Being afraid of high ISO

10. Under-utilizing features like Live Comp, High Res, Focus Stacking etc.
