Micro Four Thirds is dead?.. A response

OK so this is my opinion on the video Tony Northrup uploaded a couple of days ago regarding the death of micro four thirds. I wanted to go over the points he makes and give you my counter arguments for why m4/3 will survive and hopefully thrive in the future.

This content is in no way affiliated with Olympus. These are my opinions alone but maybe some of you will find my perspective helpful and it might give us some interesting conversation in the comments below.

1. Cell Phones will take over for all small sensor cameras - I don't think any interchangeable lens camera system is in jeopardy until cell phones have brilliant super telephoto and super wide angle capabilities and when that happens ALL other cameras are in trouble not just m4/3.

2. Full frame is just going to keep getting cheaper. Well this is probably true but maybe maybe we're reaching the point of diminishing returns with sensors and in truth any modern sensor will do practically any job so the emphasis with camera bodies in the future will be centered on features and not noise/ISO performance etc.

3. Smaller sensors do not equal smaller lenses. True to a degree but to date no one as produced as comprehensive a lineup of small lenses as m4/3 and certainly not any that have the rugged, pro, weather sealing as well as sharpness of the Olympus pro line. Maybe in the future but right now they have the market.

4. Bigger sensors equal better photos. This myth is being tested every day. Most photographers changing brands that I meet are moving from another FF system to Olympus for the advantages it provides. If it means you spend more time enjoying your photography that's a win worth any small changes in IQ in my opinion.

5. The camera market is shrinking. Well maybe but I don't think anyone can predict the future of innovation. Olympus has been around 100 years and I think their ability to bring us brilliant and useful new feature will carry them forward. If any of these predictions do some to pass Olympus will adapt to the new market. If we can predict anything about the future by looking at the past it would be that Olympus will always be pushing the envelope on features to make new and exciting images possible.
