Epidaurus. Odontotos rack railway. Diakopto - Kalavrita | Greece #4

We had a quick stop in Nafplio town on the way to the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. It was a bit freezy so we walked a bit through the streets and enjoyed the local views and life. When we reached the theatre we were really amazed. Not only by the acoustics but also by the views and surroundings. It is considered to be the most perfect ancient Greek theatre with regard to acoustics and aesthetics. The rows of limestone seats filter out low-frequency sounds, such as the murmur of the crowd, and also amplify the high-frequency sounds of the stage. The design of the auditorium is unique and based on three marking centers. Due to this special design, the architects achieved both optimal acoustics and an opening for better viewing. It seats up to 14,000 people.

The next day we had a trip that we waited for the most. It is a trip by train that goes through Vouraikos Gorge. It is called the Odontotos Rack Railway. It starts from the railway station of Diakopto and after a distance of 22km and 60 minutes drive it ends in the town of Kalavrita, 750 metres from the surface of the sea. The maximum speed is 40 km/h for adhesion sections and 12 km/h for rack sections. It was a really amazing experience! Would repeat it again! :)
