It has been a busy few days for our barn owls Hans and Grete, with them spending lots of time outside, Barney was even greeted by an empty nest when he returned to feed. It wasn’t long before a hungry beak returned though, to happily consume the meal provided.

However, the last few days haven’t been without drama, the tawny owl is still very much present and letting our fledglings know, in the way of a fly by.
Backstory: Here you'll be able to see Hans & Grete two young owlets in this nest box. Hans and Grete are growing up fast now and are now 10 weeks old. They are largely left alone during the day by owl parents Gylfie and Barney. Hans has recently started looking out of the box - looking at the outside world!

Gylfie is the female and Barney is the male barn owl. They visit at night to bring food to the owlets. Barn owls feed mainly on voles. I am support feeding this family with dead day old chicks which are a by-product of the egg laying industry. This keeps them fit and well.
