Last time I showed you how to beatmatch by ear so that the tempo of both songs is the same (in order to make a smooth transition), but this is only a small part of the mixing process. Even if both songs are playing at the same speed, you still have to make sure that you start the transition to the next song at the right count. You have to drop it on the first count of a new phrase. This could be the hook of a song, but also another part, but it has to start on the 'one' count.

In this video I show you how to recognize the structure of songs and demonstrate what happens when you start your transition on the one and what happens if you drop it on the wrong count.

I also show you a few situations were the songs have intro's or a pre count and how you can still make the transition work by counting the bars.

It might feel like you're doing math in the beginning, but after a while it will become second nature and you won't even be counting anymore.
