Mt Ruapehu [NZ] | Travel with kids

We had a blast exploring Mount Ruapehu via the Sky Waka gondola in Tongariro National Park (Whakapapa).

After doing the Skyline Walk at the top of the gondola, we enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch at The Pinnacles and finished our day with the quick Mead’s Wall walk at the Whakapapa base. The Skyline Walk (“best short walk in Tongariro”) took us around 2 hours, while the Mead’s Wall walk, which included stunning Lord of the Rings views (!), took us about 15 minutes.

We went mid-summer 2022 during the “Orange” traffic light setting, so were able to do all the fun outdoor and indoor activities on our agenda!
