ENSURE YOUR NEW HOME IS PRE-PLUMBED CORRECTLY FOR A WATER SOFTENER.

New home builders are becoming more aware of the negative impacts that hard water causes to a household and are not beginning to "pre-plumb" their home for a water softener or some sort of treatment system; however, many of these setups are not optimized for a water softener. Three things are needed to hook up a salt-based water softener: 1) access to a main line water loop, 2) drain access, 3) electric socket.
The main water loop is the most primary part of the setup and, therefore, normally setup correctly. The misses occur with the drain and power connection- at times there is not drain access....anywhere nearby! Causing extra work needed to run lines through the garage and make holes into the walls to access a drain (which leads to extra costs). Other times there is no power connection nearby, which is a quick fix for an electrical technician but, again, that is extra expenses you can avoid.

If you are buying a new home and are investing into a water softener or water treatment system, ensure your home is pre-plumbed correctly the first time.
