Rant on a ride – imagine if cycling was as taxable as alcohol, a hypothetical proposition

While on a Sunday morning ride in Sydney, I got thinking about the different focus and consideration given to two regular things in my life: cycling and alcohol.
One is good for you. The other… seems good for you (at the time, and if you listen to how booze is spoken about in Australian culture, even by politicians who are searching for ways to 'get the economy moving again').
One accrues a huge amount of tax revenue, the other doesn’t. And that’s one theme of this rant* on my ride.
I also attempt to weave into my commentary how beneficial it would be if the government invested just a little more enthusiasm into pushing the good of cycling as much as it does on promoting a drinking culture…

*Note: I use the term ‘rant’ reluctantly. I prefer: ‘discussion with myself about an eclectic range of topics’ (that I’m now sharing with you).

PS. I do jump from one topic to another… but in the mix is a hypothetical question that came to mind after riding over broken glass.
