Texas frat bros smuggled 1,000 migrants to pay college tuition

Texas, 2011. A broke 25-year-old club photographer named Max met a guy named Miguel at a club throwing hundreds in the air. Asked him what he did for work. Miguel said: human trafficking.

Miguel's family ran a small smuggling ring — moving migrants past Border Patrol checkpoints in South Texas for $500 a head. Max joined as a driver. Then he read a Steve Jobs biography and decided to "10x" the operation.

He recruited Texas A&M frat kids at parties — free booze, free drugs, then the pitch: "a transportation service for undocumented workers." The trick? All-white drivers. Border Patrol pulls over a clean-cut white kid in a brand-new Kia dead last.

In one year they smuggled over 1,000 people and made hundreds of thousands of dollars a month. Homeland Security called them the Coyote Bros — and Agent Rodney later said it was the strangest case he'd seen in 15 years.
