Best Way To Grow Your Salon Business

What's the best way to grow your salon business? This is a question I get asked all the time so I’m going to explain the way that helped me grow my business 20 fold!

So a lot of companies offer a discount if you write them a review, right? And while reviews are absolutely golden and highly recommended (I actually used to do this in the very beginning) there is a better way to help you gain clients.

This was actually my at the time boyfriend, now husband’s, idea so I have to give credit where credit is due. But I started offering my clients that if they could bring in a friend referral to come get waxed by me, I would give them 50% off their next service. So for example, say my client Sarah brings in her friend Amanda to come get waxed. Amanda would pay full price for the service and Sarah would get 50% off her service. Of course if she did multiple areas she would only get half off one of the area but I would always do half off the highest price area.

Why would I do this? Why would I give Sarah (the return client) a discount and not Amanda, the new client? I’m glad you asked!

First, the moment I started to do this with my repeat clients, the referrals I started getting skyrocketed! I got so many new clients that it almost immediately doubled my clientele.

Second, referral clients are so much better than a new client that knows nothing about you. The referral client already trusts you because they got your info from someone they trust or love, so the chance that they are going to continue to come back to you and become a repeat client themselves, is way higher than a new client that has no connection to you.

I give the repeat client the discount because they did the hard work for me. They went out and talked up my business and helped me potentially gain a new repeat client, so they deserve to be rewarded for it. European Wax Center used to give $5 if you bring in a referral, but I discovered that $5 just wasn’t enough and didn’t seem to motivate people to tell their friend about you. 50% off their next service did! It seems like a lot at first, but if you can think of that new client they brought in continuing to come back over and over and over again, it’s well worth it!

Additionally, I don’t give a discount to the new client because I don’t know if I will ever see them again. So why give a discount to someone you might only see once? Instead, the next time they come back (assuming they do), you can let them know of your referral a friend discount and how they can also get 50% off their service if they bring a friend in!

Ok, so how long do you offer this to your clients? FOREVER. I had some clients that ALWAYS got 50% off because they ALWAYS brought in new referrals for me, and I loved them for it!

My business got so busy within such a short period of time. So I highly recommend this method if you’re looking to expand your business and gain more clients!
