How Cyclophosphamide acts as alkylating agent?
Cyclophosphamide is a nitrogen mustard that acts as alkylating agent . In-vivo, it is splitted into phosphoramide mustard and acrolein by metabolism in the liver. The former is responsible for its pharmacological action as alkylating agent on DNA while the later metabolite is cytotoxic and produces bladder toxicity. To treat this bladder toxicity, MESNA can be externally administered.
