Side effects of Anticancer agents in easy way to remember
Anticancer agents produce tissue level toxicity somewhat specific to few of the anticancer agents. All these specific side effects can be easily remembered by a logical pattern. For example, drugs like bleomycin and busulfan produce lung toxicity leading to pulmonary fibrosis.
This side effect is also observed with other anticancer agents but ore pronounced in these two drugs. Similarly doxorubicin is an anthracycline cytotoxic antibiotic that produces cardiotoxicity.
Along with specific side effects we can also remember common side effects of anticancer agents by studying in logical way. These anticancer agents can also produce a group of common side effects as they inhibit cell division at various organs. For instance they can produce nausea and vomiting as one general side effect which normally results from the stimulation of Chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ).
This can be controlled by Ondansetron which is a 5-HT3 antagonist that acts on CTZ.
Here in this video, we will discuss how to remember in easy way both common and specific side effects of anticancer agents.
