Mayoral Candidate at Edgware Bus Station

Laila Cunningham, Reform UK's London Mayoral candidate, visited Edgware Bus Station to see first-hand what the Mayor of London has just approved to demolish.

The plan: demolish a fully enclosed bus station used by 23,000 passengers a day, and build an underground electric bus garage housing approximately 190 lithium-ion buses — directly beneath nine residential tower blocks of up to 29 storeys.

The London Fire Brigade has formally objected since 2022, warning of structural collapse risk and the potential for toxic vapour cloud explosions. This kind of structure has never been built in the UK. No Building Regulations exist for it.

The Mayor of London approved the scheme anyway. The GLA confirmed Stage 2 on 30 March 2026.
