Bird Photography From A Kayak - It’s Awesome!
Bird photography from a Kayak!! Are you serious? Yes, my friend...I am very serious.
Photography from a kayak is a brilliant way to photograph not only birds but perspectives of the landscape from very interesting angles. It gets you down very low to the ground and photos from this angle look amazing.
In addition, birds will let you approach much closer in a kayak for some reason. I think it's because you are moving at a slow, steady pace; drifting with the flow of the water, and they don't see you as a threat.
A dry bag is a must to protect your precious gear. I use an Outrak 25L dry bag. It's great because it has a see-through window and it's large enough to fit my D5200 with the 70-300mm lens on it inside, plus more things like my car keys, camera batteries, etc. https://www.bcf.com.au/p/outrak-heavy-duty-25l-dry-bag/542606.html?cgid=BCF024525#start=5
You do have to watch out for splashes onto your gear while paddling. This can be overcome with a simple ziplock bag using the technique I show you in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJuUVU0GmeM
I hope you enjoyed the video. Until my next one, you can find me here:
