Jewish Mixology with Jhos: "The Michael Twitty" Cocktail | JCCSF
What better way to celebrate our first-ever Day of Giving than with a signature cocktail from our maggid and resident mixologist Jhos Singer in honor of our good foodie friend and supporter, James Beard award-winning chef Michael Twitty.
Ingredients:
2 ripe strawberries
1 large spring of mint
1 large spring of dill
¼ oz Molasses
2 oz Bourbon (Kentucky if possible, I.W. Harper would be a good choice)
Instructions:
- In the bottom of a Boston or cobbler shaker muddle one strawberry with the molasses. Extract the juices from the berry as well as you can. Then add the herbs and gently bruise them with the muddler.
- Add in the bourbon and fill will ice. Put on the other half of the shaker and shake vigorously for at least 15 seconds or until the shaker gets very cold and frosty.
- Double strain (use a Hawthorne, or, if you insist, a Julep strainer on the tin and a small kitchen strainer on the glass) into a small ice filled (broken or a large rock—ideally the ice will be clear) old fashioned tumbler.
- Make a cut in the Strawberry and hang it on the rim of the glass.
- Drop a spring of mint in alongside the strawberry if you are feeling it.
