Silk is a natural fiber produced by silkworms, primarily the larvae of the mulberry silkworm (Bombyx mori). The process of harvesting silk involves several steps, from raising silkworms to obtaining the silk thread. Here is a general overview of the silk harvesting process:
1. Silkworm Rearing:
• Silkworms are typically raised in controlled environments called sericulture farms.
• The primary food source for silkworms is mulberry leaves. The quality of the leaves affects the quality of the silk produced.
2. Egg Hatching:
• Female silk moths lay eggs, which are carefully collected and stored.
• When the time is right, the eggs hatch into larvae, known as silkworms.
3. Feeding and Growing:
• Silkworms are placed in trays and provided with fresh mulberry leaves.
• They go through several molting stages, shedding their skin as they grow.
4. Cocoon Formation:
