Most people think the fastest way to drive is by shifting at redline every time. But here’s the truth:
.Every engine has a power band the RPM range where it makes the most horsepower. If you rev past it, power actually starts to drop off, meaning you waste time hanging in weaker RPMs. That’s why shifting slightly before redline often lands you back in the heart of the power band, keeping acceleration strong.

But not all engines behave the same. High-revving motors like Honda’s VTEC K20, or exotics like the Ferrari 458 and Lexus LFA, are designed to keep pulling hard all the way to redline which is why those cars want you to stretch every gear out.
