This is a killer lick you can use to open your solo on a piece like 'Swing 42' or 'All Of Me'.

I was looking for a good way to kick off my solo on a recording of 'Swing 42' I was doing with the jazz guitarist Martin Taylor and came up with this lick then.

Of course you can use the lick anywhere in your solo but it's a strong opener to kick off your solo with for sure.

The opening bit of the lick is actually over the G7 harmony and the Bb note or #9 sounds really cool and angular.

It then resolves to a nice C major sound. Of course play it in your own way and get inspired by the overall sound of the lick.

Like in the video take each bit of the lick sparsely and loop it till you have it smooth. Then move to the next bit.

There's nothing worse than fluffing these kind of licks so you need to learn them slowly and practice them in slow motion before you get them up to tempo.
