What Our Love Needs - King Floyd - 1970

Produced by legendary New Orleans producer, Wardell Quezergue and recorded on New Orleans native, King Floyd, What Our Love Needs, was one of a handful of tracks that Querzergue brought to the Malaco studios in the summer of 1970 to finish up production. He had Floyd record, What Our Love Needs, and Groove Me, and got both songs ready to present to Stax and Atlantic. Both companies turned him down, so Malaco decided to create a label of their own, Chimneyville, to release the 45. What Our Love Needs, was slated to be the A-side with Groove Me, the B-side. New Orleans DJ George Vinnett, had both songs playing at his nieces party and Groove Me was the runaway favorite of the night with the kids. Vinnett starting plugging Groove Me on the air despite Malaco insisting that he was playing the wrong side! Groove Me, went to #1, effectively relegating, What Our Love Needs, to flip side status!
