On-Page SEO Tips (for beginners) | Small Business Marketing
On-Page SEO is something you need to do, something you must do to get your website found in Google. First off SEO stands for search engine optimization, which is the practice of ranking higher in Google.
On-Page SEO is when you do things to your pages on your website so they can get found when potential customers search for what you do in Google.
For example, Google Root Canal near me, and I can almost guarantee that the web pages about root canals will be ranking at the top. Not the general dentist website.
I’m here to tell you, on-Page SEO is simple to understand, but a challenge to implement. It is difficult.
But, you can do some of the basics as a business owners or a non-expert that will get you pretty far.
I’m not going to go into the details of On-Page SEO because there are dozens of blog posts and videos outlining that.
What I’m going to do is give you different advice. I’m going to give you a cheat, what I like to call a heuristic.
When it comes to on-page seo for local marketing, do this for success.
First, break down every type of service or product you provide. Second, create a webpage for each type of service or product. And third, here’s where the heuristic comes in. Make each of those webpages the best resource online for potential customers in your city.
The reason you want to make it the best resource is Google rewards quality content and information by showing it high in Google. All Google wants to do is make their searchers happy. And when you do that with your product or services webpage, Google will rank your higher.
What does “the best” mean? It’s going to depend on your business. I really like this example. Go to Google and search for “car accident attorney”. I can almost guarantee that the webpage will be well optimize for that exact term. You will see photos, videos, easy to read text, bullet points, headers, testimonials. Basically a great resource answering potential customers questions.
You want each of your service and product pages to do just that.
The mistake I see with many small business websites is too little information about what you make money on. Do the best you can to answer potential customer questions and build trust with them.
On-Page SEO is something you can try as a business owner and if it doesn’t work out and you’re not ranking higher in Google after a few months, you can always hire a on-page local seo expert to tweak it for you.
