Easy Marketing Strategy | Small Business Marketing

One time, I talked with someone who owned a hair salon and she said, “Blake I want to post more on Instagram and social media, I know my customers are there, especially the younger generation, but I just don’t have time to take all the pictures! What should I do?”

I said, I completely understand that it’s hard to come up with content for Instagram. Plus, I know it’s hard to come up with creative photos when you’re on the go. Especially, if you’re more of an analytical person than a creative person.

I asked her if there was someone else in her business that could upload photos for her. She’s like, no not any of my current employees. I said No, not employees, maybe someone else…

Her customers! We designed a strategy to get more of her customer

She said this all sounds great Blake, but I don’t think they will want to take it in the salon because it isn’t a fancy background.

And I said, well why don’t you create one. So she set up a place with good lighting, a stylish background, and encouraged her employees to offer to take photos of the customers. Now, she’s getting a steady stream of customers creating Instagram content for her!

This is called customer generated content. And it’s never been easier to do than right now. The reason why is because we have more smartphones than ever before and people are taking pictures of themselves and their lives than ever before. Isn’t that crazy?

As a business, you can encourage your customers to use their $1000 smart camera to take pictures for you!

Here’s the cool part about getting your customers to create content for you. It’s free. It’s free. It’s free. And it takes little of your time.

Here’s a few more tips for customer generated content:

Use Business’s name as a hashtag
Encourage customers to use your hashtag on Instagram so that you can find the photos later on. You search by your hashtag and wa-la you can easy find customer photos to repost.

Consider Paying a Customer that’s an influencer
Listen to this. I met someone who gave an online influencer $50 worth of product in exchange for 5 photos. $10 a photo. I’m here to tell ya, those photos came our really good. Professional quality. All for $10 a piece. If she went to a professional photographer, they would have been $300 a piece! Because it’s the cost of the photographer and model! Instagram influencers can be very affordable.

Consider Branding Photo
If you take a photo, you can add your logo to it by using a program like Canva. I’m not a huge fan of this, because I believe it takes away from the authenticity of the photo. But, if you find your photos being reposted, you may want to do this.

This is simple. You always want to give the the person who Posted the original photo credit. It’s an etiquette thing, but I think it’s important to do.

If you have the type of business that serves customers who would Post photos of your product of service online, consider encouraging them to create content for you. It will make your life way easier.
