Ship ALGOMA INNOVATOR on Welland Canal

The downbound ALGOMA INNOVATOR seen entering Lock 2 on the Welland Canal, Sept. 2, 2018. The Carlton St. Bridge (3A) is a great example of a rolling bascule drawbridge. The ALGOMA INNOVATOR is one of Algoma's latest Equinox-class ships to begin service on the Great Lakes. She was built at the 3 Maj shipyard in Croatia, and launched on Dec.29, 2016. Finally, she departed on Feb.23, 2018, and arrived in Canada in March 2018. She is a 78 ft.-wide / 650 ft.-long self-unloading dry-bulk carrier, with an innovative feature in that her 80m-long boom is mounted at the bow of the ship. This is designed to give the ship more flexibility to discharge cargoes in tighter spaces.
