A medical background does not automatically qualify to mentor | Parenting Health Institute

PSA: Just because someone has a medical background such as a nurse or doctor, it does not automatically qualify them to mentor or teach professionals about how to coach!

Take for example sleep coaching, the average medical school only provides 4-6 hours of sleep education in total that is usually medically related and has nothing to do with coaching whatsoever.

Yet you may come across medical professionals using their medical background to qualify their skills to train others how to coach. While we tremendously value nurses and doctors for their specific industry skills, coaching is an additional skill outside of medical school that requires training and years of practice.

Before investing in a coaching program from anyone, make sure their background includes years of coaching experience and training.
