NSW SES tells residents to prepare to evacuate ahead of torrential rain

NSW SES Assistant Commissioner Dean Storey has warned residents to be prepared for a “concerning few days of weather” with large swathes of the state to be slammed by torrential rain.

Up to a month’s worth of rainfall is expected to lash NSW in a matter of days with residents in floodplains told to plan ahead to evacuate if necessary.

“A concerning few days of weather ahead of us over a large proportion of the state right from northern NSW, Central NSW and southern, so a widespread impact, so really urging the community to be aware of their local forecasts and local risks and plan accordingly,” Mr Storey told Sky News.

“The forecast impact area is quite widespread at the moment, there are currently 18 flood watches in place and three flood warnings – those flood warnings will likely increase as the day goes on.

“The key message today into Friday and also Saturday is make yourself aware of the local forecast and conditions.

“If you live in floodplain areas, have a plan, know what to do if you need to evacuate, what you take and where you will go.”
