NSW emergency pandemic powers a ‘complete overreach’
NSW Shadow Health Minister Ryan Park has labelled the NSW government’s proposed extension of pandemic powers a “complete overreach”.
Health Minister Brad Hazzard suggested extending the state government’s pandemic powers until 2023, in a move quickly shut down by Premier Dominic Perrottet.
A decision on whether to extend the emergency powers will now not be made until next year.
“At a time when we need business back to work, employers back to work, our economy open, we can’t have a situation where these laws are going for close to 18 months,” Mr Park told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“Given the situation and the low rates of transmission, that’s not reasonable, that’s not fair, and I don’t think that’s what the community expect.”
