Concourse Entrance: Scratch Building a Low Relief Victorian Hotel Part 4
In this video I show you how I designed and scratch-built a station concourse hotel entrance out of card for my model railway layout.
I am scratch building a low-relief Victorian hotel out of card on my N Gauge model railway layout, Chandwell. Inspired by the Midland Hotel in Bradford, this hotel will comprise many different parts and have a very complex-looking roof structure.
In Part Four of the series, I show how I used card and chocolate cake packaging to scratch build the hotel entrance for the station concourse. I designed the entrance using the free software, Inkscape. It took six and half hours from initial design to finished model to scratch-build.
I show some of the materials I use when scratch-building and offer some thoughts on the cost and economy of scratch building using paper printed with an inkjet printer.
The techniques I am showing can be used to help scratch building in any scale, not just N Scale, so whether you model 00 gauge, O gauge, HO gauge, or anything else - take a look at this and see if using card for your scratch-builds is for you.
