Planning a station scratch build in 3D using cereal packets for mock ups
In this video I show you how I go about planning a model railway scratch build for my N Gauge model layout, and just what steps I took to finally decide on what Chandwell's station will look like. I show you how to make model building mock-ups using card.
Using cereal packets as a medium for creating mock-ups of scratch-built model railway buildings is a very cheap and quick way to verify whether the ideas you have will work once on your layout. I went through many, many, iterations of designs on Chandwell and the process more than proved its worth.
In this video I show you how I have come to the decision about what Chandwell's N Scale station will look like - from initial inspiration, to failed attempts, and to my final plans.
I love scratch building model railway buildings and I am really looking forward to making Chandwell's station from card. The mock-up process is a vital part of any scratch build and I have never discussed it in this much detail before.

Thank you to two YouTube channels which have helped me out this month and are well worth a watch:
Richmond North Yorkshire:

Chris’ channel is a different focus to mine, being a 00 steam-age, DCC model of a real place, but his station is beautiful and he offers many good tips on DCC as well as his regular layout updates. I’ve put a link to his channel in the description of this video.
Mossdale N Gauge Railway:

Mossdale is everything that Chandwell is not - it's a beautiful, idyllic, rural location set in the days of steam. Go and look at the lovely photography and camera angles to the sounds of chirping birds. It is very relaxing!
