Nonprofit pivots to help Helene victims rebuild their homes

The nonprofit Appalachia Service Project used to focus on finding permanent housing for people, but that all changed when Hurricane Helene hit. That’s when ASP got creative to help with immediate needs, rebuilding or repairing homes that had been destroyed by the storms.

Steve and Debra Hughes are the recipients of the second home ASP has finished in North Carolina. The house was completely redone after floods from Hurricane Helene destroyed it.

“They have been wonderful,” Debra Hughes said of the nonprofit who made the repairs happen.
