If you want to learn #options trading then you have come to the right place. In this video we have discussed common mistakes of option trading.

There are two types of options – #calloptions and #putoptions. When the underlying #stocks price goes up, the Call options price rise and the Put options price fall. When the underlying stock price goes down, the Call options price fall and the Put options price rise. There may be exceptions to this behavior from time to time. Stock options have stocks as underlyers and index options have index (such as #Nifty, #BankNifty) as underlyers. Index options are generally more popular then stock options. Traders buy or sell options based on many factors but primarily on underlying stock’s outlook

The date on which the option will expire. #NSE options expire on last Thursday of the month. For example if option expiry is displayed as MAY2015 that means the option will expire on the last Thursday of MAY 2015. Currently NSE is offering options having expiration as far as 3 years away. Long term options are termed as LEAPS.
Options and #futures expire at the end of the month. However, it varies with the underlying instrument and the exchange and you should check the expiry of the contract before taking positions. On expiry date, the settlement is done for the position holders and the profit / loss is adjusted to the position holder’s account. Options traders who have closed their positions before expiry do not get impacted by this process. If you leave your positions open till the expiry then the profits generated by your positions is transferred to your account after the settlement. Many traders close out their positions just before the expiry to save on settlement and other related charges.

Put or Call. Probable values are CA, CE, PA, PE
1. CE – Call option with European Style
2. CA – Call option with American Style
3. PE - Put option with European style
4. PA – Put option with American Style

Index options are European Style and Stock options are American Style. In Indian markets all options are of European style.
Major Option attributes are set by the exchange and may change from time to time. It is important to understand that anyone can buy or short sell options. Also, you can square off or exit your positions on or before expiry any day/any time irrespective of the fact whether you are an option buyer or options seller. This holds for both American and European style of markets. There is no compulsion to hold to the options until expiry

“An option is a contract between a buyer and a seller that gives the buyer the option or the right, but not the obligation, to buy or to sell a specified asset (stock or other asset classes) on or before the option's expiration time, at an agreed price (strike price).”
