David Abercrombie's ABANDONED Estate | Ossining, New York

This is ELDA. It was once a 25-room estate belonging to David Abercrombie. And yes that is the David Abercrombie that founded Abercrombie & Fitch. By the mid-1920s, he and his wife - Lucy Abbott Cate, acquired 60 acres of land in Ossining, NY and built their estate which they named ELDA. ELDA was an acronym from the first letter of each of their four children - Elizabeth, Lucy, David, and Abbott. The Ambercrombie’s resided in ELDA until David’s death in 1937. It was owned by several organizations and families before finally being abandoned in 2011.

Since the last residents have lived at ELDA until the making of this video in 2023, the estate has been subject to heavy vandalism. I’ve visited this spot several times over the last few years to document the various stages of decay
