What Olympic Athletes ACTUALLY Eat | Full Day Of Eating
If you want to see what a good diet for an athlete really looks like this video is perfect for you. Double Olympian and current World Number 2 Modern Pentathlete (Swimming, Fencing, Riding, Running & Shooting) Arthur Lanigan O'Keeffe takes you through a full day of eating during a big days training.
If you are curious about the meals I ate in the video here is some more detail for you:
Meal 1: Banana + Flat white with full-fat milk (3.5%) no sugar.
Meal 2:
- A large bowl of Overnight Oats + 30mls of Full Fat Milk
- A small bowl of Frozen Berries + A Banana
- Optimum Nutrition Multi Vit & Fish Oil
Meal 3:
- Large Bowl of "Institute of sport" Bircher Muesli + chopped fruit.
- Half a piece of Bacon
- 2 Poached eggs
Meal 4:
- Chicken breast in Teriyaki sauce
- Beetroot salad
- Greek Salad
- Cold Asian noodle salad
- Flat White (Full Fat Milk)
Meal 5:
- 2 scoops of Optimum Nutrition 2:2:1 Elite Recovery
Meal 6:
- 2 scoops of Optimum Nutrition 2:2:1 Elite Recovery
Meal 7:
- Big Green Salad with tomatoes, Peppers, Cucumber & Balsamic dressing.
- A very large bowl of pasta with homemade tomato sauce bulked out with mascarpone (instead of cream), Chicken, Pancetta, onions, and frozen garden peas.
Meal 8:
- M&M Peanut Icecream
Meal 9:
- Barrys Tea with 30mls of FullFat Milk
- 2 Big slices of Natalya Coyles healthy banana/ blueberry bread
Meal 10:
- Optimum Nutrition Casein mixed with boiling water
- Optimum Nutrition Fish Oil + Multi Vit
I usually aim for around 5,500Kcals on big training days with a ratio of 60% Carbs 20% Fats & 20% Protein. This is what I find works best for me. Although, this does not necessarily mean it will work for you. I believe firmly in a non-restrictive diet so each day of eating is different. I am not a person who does not count calories, I have just learned over the years what my body needs to perform throughout training days and competitions.
