But first, it’s starting to seem like Trump is loosening the guidelines in order to make it easier for states to apply for the Lost Wages Assistant program.

Originally, these funds were only available to states who were not paying 100 a week to their residents. Meanwhile, the incentive sounds like enough for the Empire State to finally take the leap of faith and ask for that extra 300 a week. This will give states like New York, who wasn’t offering the 100 dollars, the chance to apply.
Budget Director of New York Robert Mujica stated last Friday, “Now that the Federal government has blinked and will no longer make states provide funding they do not have, New York State Will apply the Lost Wages Assistance program.”

He later went on to say that “the president still needs to pass a comprehensive aid package that provides a stable extension of unemployment benefits, repeals the SALT cap and supports local and state governments. Anything else would be unacceptable.”

More states will have the opportunity for the Lost Wages Assistant program which is supposed to last until December 6th without having to dish out more state funds.

If the governors get on board soon, states that applied could start receiving their money as soon as August 29th.

If you’re living in these states, make sure you send your governor a thank you letter. Because you most likely got your $100 state benefits plus your $300 dollar FEMA aid: Arizona, Montana, West Virginia and Kentucky.

It’s interesting to note how some states who really need the assistance aren’t applying for FEMA aid, while states with good economies are getting even more money!

Idaho for example has applied, despite their low employment rate and could be one of the lucky states that receives the 300 dollars a week, plus the additional 100 dollars of state aid.

Governor of Idaho said, “Idaho still has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country, thanks to the investments and creativity of Idaho’s businesses in safely reopening. We are choosing to participate in President Trump’s new program as a part of a comprehensive approach to our economic rebound, which includes small business grants and return to work incentives”.

With the announcement of the new skinny bill, it could potentially give every state the extra 300 per week. This would be a great start in getting the whole country on board but wouldn’t include stimulus checks, or student loan relief.

These next states are currently just getting the 300 a week: Iowa, Louisiana, New Mexico, Colorado, Missouri, Utah, Maryland, Idaho, Texas, and Oklahoma.

So what do we know about the states that are applying? Some of the more stubborn states are starting to brighten up to the idea of federal assistance but only time will tell.

Nancy Pelosi recently said on CNN that “I invite any ideas they have”, referring to fellow house democrats” and of course we all want negotiations to continue but not just what the administration wants, but what the country wants.

People are starting to get tired of governors making a political statement by refusing federal aid and are pushing their states to get on board with the unemployment assistance.

We should expect to see more states applying as we mentioned before after some of the state requirements were lifted. So we’ll be hoping to add some newcomers to this list. States that applied include and are waiting to get accepted include New York, California, Alaska, Arkansas, Indiana, Washington, and Alabama.
