Heroes Remember: A Friends Gives His Shovel // VeteransAffairsCA
John Preece was born in Toronto in 1926. He joined the Canadian Army during the Second World War and served overseas with the Royal Regiment of Canada. As an infantryman, he saw heavy action in Northwest Europe and would eventually receive wounds that took him out of the fighting. In this clip, Mr. Preece talks about the buddy who gave him his shovel and offered some advice about surviving on the front lines, then the sad outcome of an enemy attack shortly afterwards.
