March 1, 1945 - Major Frederick Tilston of Ontario earned the Victoria Cross for courage during the Second World War #RememberThem

Major Frederick Tilston was serving with the Essex Scottish Regiment when he earned the Victoria Cross at the Hochwald Forest in western Germany on March 1, 1945. Tilston personally led an attack through heavy fire and, despite a head wound, knocked out a machine gun post before undertaking another assault to clear additional German defences. Wounded again, he led his company in holding out against a fierce counter-attack that saw him repeatedly braving fire to keep his men supplied with ammunition and grenades.
