Temple Montefiore Rededication
Temple Montefiore was the first synagogue in New Mexico, founded in 1884, in the town of Las Vegas. The Jewish community thrived there from several decades, but in the 1950s most Jews were moving to the larger city of Albuquerque, and the synagogue building was sold and later acquired by the Catholic Church. In 2022 it was up for sale, and the small local Jewish community launched a campaign to raise funds and buy it back. People from across New Mexico and the United States gave generously to purchase it. This is the video of its rededication as a synagogue on Dec. 18, 2022, the first night of Hanukkah.
